United Waste Management is pleased to announce that we have joined the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a national organization founded in 1993 for the purpose of promoting environmental responsibility throughout the building community. The council has over thee thousand members including product manufacturers, non-profits, building owners, building professionals, utilities, and government agencies.

Membership will raise the visibility of our company as a leader in "green building". The USGBC'S LEED™ Program (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) provides UWM with a unique platform to market our ability to recycle up to a high percentage of construction and demolition waste processed at our Boston facility.

Launched in 1999, LEED™ is a voluntary rating system created to define and measure the standard for green building. The Program evaluates the sustainability of buildings based on criteria outlined under five focus areas: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resource, and Indoor Environmental Quality. Points are assigned within each focus area, the total of which is applied to a total certification level - for example: a "silver certification level" requires a minimum of 33 points. Certified buildings are able to qualify for state and local tax incentives as well as density bonuses. In 2003 five percent of new commercial construction projects have registered for certification, thirty-six percent of which were for profit organizations.

Leed Reporting

United Waste Management has been a long-standing registered member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a national organization founded in 1993 for the purpose of promoting environmental responsibility throughout the building community. Our transfer station is the only permitted facility in Boston, MA. 

Our membership has raised the visibility of our company as a leader in “Green Building.”  The USGBC’s LEED Program (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) provides United Waste Management with a unique ability to recycle a large majority of construction and demolition waste processed through our outlets.

We offer programs to construction companies allowing them to comply with “Green Building” regulations. In order to meet the requirements for the LEED Green Building Rating System, companies must recover the materials that can be recycled and/or reused. Our LEED reporting systems are state-of-the-art, and unquestionably are the leader in the C & D marketplace. Our projects typically exceed recycling rates in excess of 75%. Our construction waste management plans allow our customers to achieve LEED status, and save money by reducing waste removal costs.

Waste Diversion

Our wood products are recycled and re-manufactured by various wood suppliers. Our metals recycled for feedstock. Our asphalt, brick, and concrete, are reused as aggregate on construction projects. Our clean gypsum board is recycled and converted into new wall board. Our plastics and corrugated materials are baled and reused by manufacturers.
