United Waste Management was created to better serve the recycling and waste hauling industry. In pursuit of that vision we acquired the premier transfer station in Boston MA, as well as two hauling stations which serviced the greater Boston Area. We provided significant capital to upgrade our facilities, invest in information technology, and expand our customer base. Scott K. Lemay, Chief Executive Officer, Scott.Lemay@unitedwastemanagement.com – Scott brings over 23 years of industry experience to the company. He was the CEO and Founder of RTI (1987-1992). He then managed the Eastern operations and integrated over 50 acquired companies at United Waste Systems (1992-1997). He later served as the CEO and Founder of Waste Control Inc. (1998 – 1999) where he executed a private offering and a debt facility to fund development and acquisitions. Scott transitioned to the site services business when he founded United Site Services, Inc. (1999-2003). Scott Integrated 36 acquired companies over 3 years. Scott developed and initiated our initial market entry, capitalization, strategic infrastructure and acquisition pipeline.
Jeffrey E. Leech, General Manager – Transfer Stations, jeff.leech@unitedwastemanagment.com – Jeff’s diverse Operational background started with 17 years of active duty operating Naval Nuclear Power Submarines and training new Nuclear Engineers on the operations and maintenance required to safely run Naval Nuclear Reactors (1979-1996). He served as the Maintenance Supervisor for Omni Source Corp. (1996-1998). Jeff then oversaw the C&D grinding operation at the Central Landfill in RI (1999-2001) and then served as Operation Manager at a 1,500tpd C&D processing facility/MSW transfer station (New Bedford Waste Services) where he was recognized as one of the top C&D recyclers in Nation in 2004 (2002-2009). Jeff continued to take on more responsibility as the General Manager of Stoughton Recycling Tech Inc, a 800tpd C&D processing facility where he oversaw the closure/demonstration project (Hydrogen Sulfide generation) of the 33 acre Stoughton Landfill with the MassDEP (2009-2011). Jeff oversees the operation and logistics of our transfer stations and facilities.
Brian E. Tompkins, General Manager – Hauling, brian.tompkins@unitedwastemanagement.com – Brian has over 20 years of experience in the solid and liquid waste business. Brian managed municipal contracts, commercial waste hauling and transfer stations for several companies, including Waste Management and Casella Waste, from 1988-2005. He worked as an Operations Manager, overseeing a fleet of 30 vehicles and a territory that encompassed 60 miles for United Site Services (2005-2010). Brian manages our hauling business which operates a fleet of 24 trucks, 1,000 dumpsters and an integrated sales force.
Neil S. Beranbaum, Chief Development Officer, Neil.Beranbaum@unitedwastemanagement.com – Neil has been buying and building companies for over 20 years. He founded a home improvement sales and marketing company where solicited clients via a canvasser and direct response method, arranged for homeowner financing with a variety of lending institutions, and installed vinyl windows and siding (1989-1990). He later founded a one-on-one tutoring, test preparation and application consulting business (1990-1997). He then purchased the assets of four separate, yet related direct marketing, catalog and manufacturing firms with sales to the public safety marketplace. He doubled the number of company SKUs, grew sales and profits over 120% and 350%, respectively and increased the Company’s number of active accounts from 9,000 to 32,000. Mr. Beranbaum worked with investors and venture capitalists to finance and grow the Company. He then purchased a small disposal and demolition firm where he grew the account base, number of trucks and level of service to become a formidable competitor in the marketplace (2003-2008). Neil provides strategic support and advice to our senior management team as well as our acquisitions team.
Peter Lemay, Chief Information Officer, peter.lemay@unitedwastemanagement.com – Peter has over 30 years of experience in systems, public accounting, information technology and entrepreneurship. In 1979, Peter joined Exxon Company USA and held positions in audit, systems and operations. In 1983, Peter worked at Price Waterhouse’s Management Advisory Service as a Senior Consultant. In 1986, Peter founded Automated Business Development, a supplier of custom financial software and services which he successfully grew and increased its EBITDA margin to over 40%. Peter graduated from Boston College with a B.A. in Accounting and Computer Science and also holds a CPA license. Peter oversees our information technology infrastructure and works with management to improve both our internal reporting and efficiency.
Joe Balducci, Chief Financial Officer, Joe.Balducci@unitedwastemanagement.com – Joe has 24 years of experience within Public Accounting and Private Industry. He served as an Audit Manager at KPMG (1984-1988) and later as a Partner at Fusco, Solar and Kearney, CPAs (1989-1992). Joe worked as a VP Finance at LB Evans (1992-2001) and the Chief Accounting Officer and Controller at United Site Services, Inc where he was responsible for overall accounting. Joe has extensive experience with all aspects of acquisitions from due diligence to post closing integration issues. He prepared monthly reporting packages for internal management, Board and Lender requirements and worked closely with lenders and Private Equity groups, providing financial and operational information. Joe currently oversees our internal accounting and manages relations with our investors and lenders.
